Sky Sports: Everton now "interested" in January signing of £8m+ attacker

Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg has claimed that Everton are interested in signing a 26-year-old attacker with an £8.4m release clause, with a January move mooted.

Latest Everton transfer rumours

It looks as though The Friedkin Group are aiming to make their presence felt from the off at Goodison Park, with the prospective owners eyeing three important additions in the January transfer window.

It has been claimed that they want Everton to sign a new full-back, winger and striker, seeing all three positions as priority areas and wanting more depth on show throughout the squad, as Sean Dyche looks to once again steer his side up the Premier League table.

Dan Friedkin at AS Roma.

There is also believed to be an agreement in place between the Blues and Dele Alli, in terms of the 28-year-old only getting paid on a contract when he is fit enough to play in the first team on a regular basis.

In terms of potential outgoings, underwhelming Everton striker Beto has been linked with a move to Roma, and the fact that The Friedkin Group also own the Serie A club means that it could make it an easier piece of business to get over the line, should their interest be genuine.

Everton eyeing January move for attacker

According to Plettenberg on X, Everton are keen on signing Red Star Belgrade attacker Silas in the January window, with the 26-year-old currently on loan there from VfB Stuttgart:

Silas could be a really shrewd signing by Everton if they can strike a deal, with his numbers in a Stuttgart shirt highlighting the level of end product he could bring to Dyche’s team.

The winger has scored 35 goals and chipped in with 21 assists in 132 appearances for the Bundesliga side, showing that he possesses both creativity and a goalscoring knack in the final third. He is also a 16-cap international for Congo, scoring once for his country to date, and he has netted twice in his first five appearances on loan at Red Star.

It looks as though Stuttgart are willing to cut that loan spell short, however, allowing Everton to potentially swoop in January, and the fact that Silas’ release clause is as little as £8.4m makes him a cheap option well worth taking a risk on.

The attacking ace can thrive as both a right-sided player and a centre forward, giving Dyche more versatility in his attack, and he could prove to be an upgrade on Beto if he leaves in January, making this one to watch.

Disgraced former Spanish Football Federation president Rubiales planted a kiss onto the lips of Hermoso during the medal ceremony which followed Spain’s 1-0 win over England in the 2023 Women’s World Cup final. WHAT JENNI HERMOSO SAID

Hermoso was the first witness called at that trial and said of the incident was entirely non-consensual: “My boss was kissing me, and this shouldn't happen in any social or work setting. I greeted the queen, I greeted her daughter. The next thing was meeting Rubiales. The next thing he did was to grab me by the ears and kiss me on the mouth.”

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Hermoso says that she "didn’t hear or understand anything" that Rubiales said at the time and reiterated that "a kiss on the lips is only given when I decide so". She went on to reveal that "no-one came to ask me how I was" after the kiss and that she felt "completely abandoned by the federation".

The surge in interest that football has enjoyed around the world, as streaming services continue to grow in popularity, has seen a number of teams invite cameras behind the scenes. Lids have been lifted on life at the training ground and in sweary dressing rooms across the globe.

Not all of those series have been a success, with some considered to have been pieced together for the sake of it, but Wrexham – with their Hollywood co-owners at the helm – have shown how a production that covers both professional and personal lives can deliver healthy sporting and financial rewards.

Getty/GOALWHAT ROB MCELHENNEY SAID

McElhenney has told of making something with substance alongside Reynolds, with the pair still getting nervous in a production that involves no scripts: “You can turn on Disney, Hulu or Netflix and find hundreds, if not thousands, of documentaries on sports. Some are really engaging, but some are terrible and boring and seem as if it was a money grab instead of actually trying to tell a story.

“It’s really hard to have a camera shoved in your face all the time or to wear a microphone. People think that since you’re an actor, it must be easy. It really isn’t. It’s terrifying for us and for the players.

“The only way you’re going to get that level of authenticity is if you are willing to bare it all. There are plenty of times I’m sitting in an editing room and when I rewatch some footage, I sometimes look petulant or not like the kind of person that I would want to put out into the world. I realise if I don’t put that in the show, then people will smell that out. They will see this is inauthentic, that I’m creating some sort of propaganda piece.

“You can’t manipulate it. You can’t create it from nothing. If you ask the right questions and people are willing to give truthful answers to those questions, there’s a wellspring of stories in every community across the world. You just have to know how to tell it.”

Friedkin means business as update shared on Branthwaite’s Everton future

Reporter Pete O’Rourke has dropped a massive update regarding the future of a “special” Everton player, with Dan Friedkin making his presence felt straight away.

Everton takeover and manager news

The Blues picked up a vital 2-1 win at home to Crystal Palace last Saturday, in what was their first Premier League victory of the season, easing a significant amount of pressure on manager Sean Dyche.

The Englishman has been battling to save his job after some dreadful results in the early weeks of the campaign – they blew back-to-back 2-0 leads at home to Bournemouth and away to Aston Villa – which inevitably led to candidates being backed to replace him, including David Moyes and Gareth Southgate.

West Ham United manager David Moyes

A recent claim has suggested that Dyche is safe for the time being, especially after the Palace triumph over the weekend, but he will still know that his job is under scrutiny, as The Friedkin Group look to make the right decisions when they take control.

Keeping hold of the important players at Goodison Park is of the utmost importance for the manager, as he looks to steer his side well clear of danger in the coming weeks and months.

Big update on "special" Everton star's future

According to Football Insider‘s O’Rourke, Friedkin is “unwilling” to sell Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite in the January transfer window, with the Blues’ incoming new owner “keen to not send out the wrong signals to Evertonians or other Premier League clubs” by moving him on.

The 22-year-old was constantly linked with a move away from Goodison in the summer, with the likes of Manchester City and Manchester United seen as suitors, but he ended up remaining on Merseyside, and Friedkin plans to make it clear from the off that the Blues will not be bullied into selling their stars.

This is a decision that will be met with such positivity by Everton supporters, considering the £35,000-a-week Branthwaite is one of the most prized assets in their squad currently. The Blues centre-back has such a high ceiling as a player, with Jamie Carragher under no illusions about his ability.

In truth, Everton will be aware that there is going to continue to be plenty of interest in Branthwaite, given his status as a potential future starter for England, but it is refreshing that Friedkin is digging his heels in, rather than simply cashing in and receiving huge money.

It is unlikely that the defender will spend the rest of his career at Goodison, with his ambitions likely to see him wanting to join a Champions League-playing team, but retaining his services for as long as possible can only aid Dyche and the current direction of the club.

Should Branthwaite demand a move away, it is then a case of The Friedkin Group receiving as big a fee as possible, before using the funds to considerably strengthen the squad moving forward.

Man City eyeing Vlahovic move as Juve prepare to take huge loss on £66m fee

Manchester City are weighing up a bargain move for a new striker in 2025 as he enters the final years of his contract at his current club, according to a recent report. The Blues have made a strong start to their 2024/25 season but have hit a bit of a sticky patch in the last week or so, as the loss of Rodri has seen them fail to beat Arsenal and Newcastle United.

Man City transfer news

Pep Guardiola is going to be without Rodri for the rest of the season at the very least, meaning it is down to the other City midfielders to step up to try and fill the void left by the Spaniard. In the short term, that may not be an issue, but Guardiola may be keen to find a replacement come the new year.

Already, the Blues have been linked with a move for Torino midfielder Samuele Ricci when the January transfer window opens. The 23-year-old is seen as a future star by the Premier League side, but there could also be the option to go for a more marquee addition.

As well as looking at Ricci, Man City are also interested in signing Nicolo Barella from Inter Milan. The Italian is said to have been identified as the top choice to replace Rodri after he impressed Guardiola when the two sides met in the Champions League last month. However, the Blues may face a challenge to get the midfielder out of the club, as he’s just signed a new deal and Inter value the player at around £75 million.

While finding a replacement for Rodri may be a top priority, the Blues also have their eyes on adding to their forward line in 2025 as a striker emerges on their radar.

Man City consider bargain approach for "machine" Vlahovic

According to Tutto Juve, relayed by Sport Witness, Manchester City are interested in signing Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic. The report states that the Premier League side like the Serbia international, and with his contract expiring in 2026, Txiki Begiristain is considering capitalising on the chance to get him on the cheap next year.

Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic.

The 24-year-old has been among the goals since he joined the Italian giants, and that has continued this season, scoring four times in seven matches. Vlahovic is an important player in Thiago Motta’s team, and therefore, Juventus are working to extend the striker’s contract, but City and Atlético Madrid are keeping a close eye on the situation.

If a new contract is not agreed, Juventus will make Vlahovic, who was described as being a “machine” by under-23 scout Antonio Mango, available for sale in 2025. This could allow City and Atlético Madrid to make an approach for the striker, who would be available for an affordable price despite costing Juventus £66.6 million.

However, there is a possibility that both Man City and Atlético are being used by Vlahovic and his representatives so he can secure a new contract at Juventus.

"Special" 4-2-3-1 manager keen on replacing Glasner at Crystal Palace

Oliver Glasner finds himself battling to save his job at Crystal Palace and now a “special” manager has reportedly showed an interest in replacing him at Selhurst Park.

Glasner under pressure at Crystal Palace

At the end of last season, it was hard to imagine Glasner finding himself under so much pressure this early in the new campaign, given the form his side were in. The Eagles were flying in the final months of 2023/24, thumping the likes of West Ham, Manchester United and Aston Villa, and many expected them to kick on again this season, despite losing the likes of Michael Olise and Joachim Andersen to Bayern Munich and Fulham respectively.

Instead, Palace have endured a miserable run of form, not yet winning any of their opening seven Premier League games in 2024/25 and finding themselves sitting 18th in the table and in the relegation zone. For that reason, there is plenty of unrest at Selhurst Park, with some feeling a change in manager could be needed.

Glasner has gone from complete security to facing pressure in no time at all, and he knows the importance of a positive result away to Nottingham Forest on Monday night. A defeat at the City Ground could even spell the end for him at Palace, at which point the search for a new manager would intensify.

"Special" manager eyeing Crystal Palace job

According to a new report from TEAMtalk, David Moyes is interested in taking the Crystal Palace job if Glasner is relieved of his duties, with the Scot throwing his name into the mix. It is stated that the current boss is safe for the time being, though, adding that Moyes “is interested in the Palace role but figureheads at the club have doubts he would be able to take the team forward in the way Glasner can”.

West Ham United manager David Moyes

The 4-2-3-1-playing Moyes would certainly feel like a dependable appointment by Palace if Glasner was sacked soon, possessing so much experience throughout his managerial career. The 61-year-old only left West Ham at the end of last season, during which time he won the UEFA Europa Conference League, and Jamie Carragher praised the job he did at the London Stadium.

“To win a European trophy i think is pretty special and he deserved that for his managerial career not just what he done at West Ham. He’s been a top Premier League manager. I think he will be back in the Premier League soon enough, soon enough next season or the year after because he knows how to basically navigate a Premier League season.”

Moyes’ detractors will say that he isn’t a modern manager with fresh tactical ideas, however, as the update alludes to, so hiring him could feel more like a short-term plan to get Palace out of danger, rather than a long-term project.

Needs must, though, and if Glasner can’t get the Eagles out of the mire, the former Everton and Manchester United boss could do an excellent job in south London. The fact that he has beaten Palace 10 times in 18 matches in the past shows what he is capable of.

England allrounder Sam Curran has been ruled out of the ongoing IPL and the upcoming men’s T20 World Cup with a lower-back injury. His brother Tom Curran has been drafted into the England squad as his replacement and Reece Topley has also been added as travelling reserve. The Currans are currently in the UAE for IPL 2021. Sam, playing for Chennai Super Kings, complained of back pain after the match against Rajasthan Royals on Saturday. He did not bat and leaked 55 runs in his four overs in the game. It was only his second outing in the past three weeks.”Results of the scan revealed the injury,” an ECB release said. “He will fly back to the UK in the next couple of days and will have further scans and a full review later this week from the ECB’s medical team.”Sam has conceded 111 runs in eight wicketless overs combined in the two outings in the UAE, with the team management preferring the experience of Dwayne Bravo as a bowling allrounder.”Extremely gutted. Absolutely loved my time with Chennai this season,” Sam said in a video posted by the Super Kings. “The boys are doing extremely well. It hasn’t really sunk in yet, but I’m leaving the team in a fantastic space. The boys are playing really good cricket. I want to be supporting them from where I am the next few days. Once it’s all sunk in, I’ll definitely be supporting the team, and I’m sure they can go all the way and lift the trophy”Tom, meanwhile, is yet to feature in the second leg of the IPL for Royals. Kim Garth bowls 3-3-0-3 inside powerplay to inspire Melbourne Stars victory

Defending champions Sydney Thunder were left without a win from four matches

ESPNcricinfo staff26-Oct-2021Melbourne Stars 7 for 108 (Villani 52) beat Sydney Thunder 5 for 96 (Sharma 44*, Garth 3-11) by 12 runsFormer Ireland allrounder Kim Garth produced a record-breaking opening spell of three straight maidens alongside claiming three wickets to inspire Melbourne Stars to victory in a rematch of last season’s final against Sydney Thunder.Stars had laboured to a seemingly underwhelming 7 for 108 – anchored around Elyse Villani’s half-century – but Garth immediately made inroads when she had Tahlia Wilson taken at short third and pinned Phoebe Litchfield lbw with consecutive deliveries in her first over. After another maiden against Smriti Mandhana, Garth had Corinne Hall sharply held at slip by Meg Lanning to leave defending champions Thunder 4 for 12. Five consecutive dots to Anika Learoyd then meant Garth became the first bowler in the WBBL to deliver three maidens in an innings. She had also had a hand in the third wicket, leaping at point to intercept Mandhana’s square drive.Learoyd and Deepti Sharma did their best to rebuild the chase but the asking rate ballooned towards double figures despite the small target.Garth was brought back for her final over in the 20th of the innings and conceded her first runs when Sharma found the boundary but it was too late for Thunder.Annabel Sutherland, who claimed Mandhana’s wicket, also played her role with 1 for 8 from three overs as did the trio of spinners in Erin Osborne, Linsey Smith and Sophie Day.Thunder had started well when Issy Wong produced a superb opening spell to remove Sutherland and Lanning inside the powerplay which the Stars finished on just 2 for 18.Villani and Maia Bouchier prevented further damage but progress as slow with just 47 on the board after 10 overs. Bouchier briefly broke free with three boundaries in three deliveries across the 15th and 16th overs but Villani couldn’t find the rope after the ninth over. However, Garth’s performance ensured they had enough.

Liverpool now contact Red Bull side to sign "fantastic" Trent replacement

As they look to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold, Liverpool have reportedly turned to Jurgen Klopp to grant them a favour in pursuit of one particular target in 2025.

Liverpool transfer news

Of course, in an ideal world, Liverpool would keep hold of Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Alexander-Arnold this summer. But their reality is far from ideal. Instead, their worst nightmare may well be approaching with all three players currently on course to leave as free agents when their contracts come to an end at the end of the season. With a matter of months left to negotiate fresh terms, Liverpool must get things right.

Liverpool may now use Heitinga connection to sign £85m Premier League star

He could replace Salah…

ByTom Cunningham Oct 27, 2024

In the case of Alexander-Arnold, especially, those at Anfield should be rushing to secure his signature for years to come amid interest from Real Madrid. With the ball very much in the right-back’s court, however, the Reds may be left with no choice but to turn their attention towards alternatives ahead of next summer.

If they are to replace their academy graduate, then the Reds may even turn towards an incredibly familiar face in club legend Klopp. The former Liverpool boss recently took his first job since his Anfield departure by becoming the Head of Global Soccer at Red Bull in a role that will start in January to perhaps hand the Reds the perfect man to call in search of landing one deal.

According to Caught Offside, Liverpool have now made contact to request information on Amar Dedic in the event that they have to find a replacement for Alexander-Arnold next summer. Needing one last favour from Klopp, those at Anfield could yet get their man who is reportedly open to leaving Red Bull Salzburg and completing a summer switch to the Premier League.

"Fantastic" Dedic could replace Alexander-Arnold

It certainly makes sense that Liverpool are reportedly looking at Dedic and not just because of the Klopp link. The right-back is working under Pep Lijnders this season, who played a key role in Alexander-Arnold’s development and could now do the same for the 22-year-old before he potentially completes a summer move to Anfield.

With four assists to his name so far this season too, the Salzburg star is showcasing the attacking output needed to complete the near-impossible task of replacing one of Liverpool’s most important players. Earning plenty of praise even before recent rumours, Football Talent Scout’s Jacek Kulig dubbed Dedic “fantastic” last season.

As Liverpool continue to assess their options, the Turkish right-back could yet emerge to become the ideal candidate to replace Alexander-Arnold in Arne Slot’s side next summer.
