Hollywood superstars in North WalesPumping funds into Red DragonsMore business to complete this summerWHAT HAPPENED?

There have been suggestions that the Red Dragons will find it difficult to pay the going rate for targets when selling clubs know that Hollywood millions are funding the recruitment drive in question. Several clubs higher up the Football League ladder have faced similar situations when it comes to wealthy owners.

Wrexham are determined to get fresh faces into SToK Racecourse this summer, after securing promotion into League One, with talks well underway when it comes to identifying and approaching potential additions. The Red Dragons are making it clear that they will not overspend on any player in their sights.

WHAT PARKINSON SAID

Parkinson has said of transfer business and how he expects the summer market to play out: “Like I have said before, the way we have operated is that we identify the player and then a deal is put in place. We then decide whether it represents good value and if it does, then we try and get it over the line. If it doesn't then obviously we move away as we have done in the past for various reasons.

“We haven't got to the stage of the summer of talking about fees and things like that. We are just looking at the players who are out of contract and the ones who have got one year left. Obviously we have done a lot of homework in the previous weeks as well. The clubs we will be competing with for those players will have equal spending power so I haven't really sensed that at the moment that people are trying to inflate the price because it is Wrexham.”

While being in a position to outspend every opponent in the National League and League Two, that will not be the case in the third tier of English football. That could work in Wrexham’s favour when it comes to transfer discussions, with Reynolds and McElhenney admitting that further investment will be required at some stage as the club continues to chase down the ultimate end goal of reaching the Premier League.

"I’ve heard" – Everton chiefs "really like" Fulham midfielder Harrison Reed

Everton "really like" a Premier League player who has been hailed as "outstanding" for his current club, as journalist Paul Brown delivers the latest on their January plans.

Everton transfer news

The Blues have been linked with lots of players to possibly come in during the January transfer window, giving Sean Dyche the opportunity to bring in the right individuals if he can stay within a rather tight budget, due to Financial Fair Play restrictions. Talleres winger Ramon Sosa is one player who has been linked with a move to Goodison Park, for example, with the 24-year-old seen as an affordable reinforcement to the attacking ranks.

Meanwhile, Manchester United midfielder Hannibal Mejbri has emerged as a loan option for Everton, who could swoop in from under the noses of La Liga side Sevilla, snapping him up for the remainder of the season. It looks as though the Merseysiders are keeping an eye on another current Premier League player, however, according to a fresh claim that has emerged.

Toffees "really like" Harrison Reed

Speaking to Give Me Sport, Brown admitted that Fulham midfielder Harrison Reed is a player Everton admire, with a January move potentially difficult however due to Marco Silva's affection for the player.

"I've heard links between Everton and Reed before. I do think he is a player that they really like. I can remember, not so long ago, Marco Silva talking him up as a potential England international. He was saying that he was very surprised he hadn't been called up.

"I actually think that it is a strange one right now, in terms of timing, because Everton have got their midfield sorted out at the moment. I think the balance is quite good there, but someone like Reed would come in expecting to start every week. He might not get that opportunity in the way that Dyche likes to set up."

Reed may not be the world's most physically formidable midfielder, but he is an effective footballer who could prove to be a really intelligent addition by Everton this month, with the Blues already boasting plenty of muscle in the likes of Amadou Onana and

Abdoulaye Doucoure.

The 28-year-old has made 17 appearances in the league for Fulham so far this season, but only nine of those have been starts, meaning he could be keen to earn more regular playing time elsewhere. While there is no guarantee that Dyche would find a definite spot for him in his starting lineup, he could be an exciting new option who provides a combination of industry and quality in the middle of the park.

Former Cottagers manager Scott Parker once spoke highly of him, saying: "I was really impressed with him. I thought he was outstanding. We brought him in against Cardiff last week – a tough team and it was difficult for him, and I thought against WBA he was immense really."

Everton could sign £30m Harrison upgrade who's a "nightmare for defenders"

Reed has now appeared 102 times in the Premier League, highlighting his experience in the division, and he is also a 14-cap England Under-20 international from earlier in his career, showing that he has real pedigree and could make a difference at Goodison.

Sky say Tottenham are looking to offload fast player with Dier and Spence

Tottenham are looking to sell a "fast" player after Eric Dier and Djed Spence with Ange Postecoglou also looking to offload unwanted squad members.

Spurs seal Werner and Dragusin deals

It's been quite the hectic last few days at Spurs, with the Lilywhites sealing two major signings already in RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner on loan and defender Radu Dragusin from Genoa.

Tottenham want to sign £20m player after Dragusin as club prepare to sell

He’s turned heads this season.

ByEmilio Galantini Jan 10, 2024

Werner joins Tottenham on a temporary deal with an option to buy at around €17 million (£14.6m), while Dragusin puts pen to paper at Spurs for a package in excess of £26 million (Fabrizio Romano).

Postecoglou will be thrilled by these developments, as the Australian often made public his desire to secure signings early in the January transfer window. Reports suggest Spurs could look to sign some of Europe's brightest talents or a new midfielder, depending on outgoings and whether the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg leave north London.

Out-of-favour defender Eric Dier is also subject to interest from Bayern Munich after the Bavarians failed in their Dragusin hijack attempt (Florian Plettenberg), while Spurs right-back Djed Spence is heading to Genoa as part of the deal.

Another player who's currently battling on the fringes of Postecoglou's eleven is young midfielder Bryan Gil. The Spaniard, signed by former technical director Fabio Paratici in the summer of 2021, hasn't quite managed to become a Tottenham mainstay since his arrival from Sevilla.

richarlison-bryan-gil-tottenham-opinion

Gil has been sent on various loan spells abroad in a bid to further his development, but according to Sky Sports Italia, Tottenham could actually look to offload for good.

Tottenham looking to sell Gil

According to the broadcast giant, via Get Football News Italy and TMW, Spurs are looking to outright sell Gil as things stand with Fiorentina making contact over a potential deal. It remains to be seen whether Postecoglou's side could be open to an initial loan with the option to buy, but it appears the 22-year-old may not figure in Tottenham's plans.

Gil himself is believed to want an exit and a "change of scenery", which will come as a shame given the midfielder arrived with such promise two and a half years ago.

jota-bryan-gil-tottenham-opinion

Despite barely playing him, former Spurs boss Antonio Conte even said Gil was born to play football and likened him to Man City star Bernardo Silva – all while praising his quality as a "fast" and endurant player.

“It was really important, you know about Bryan Gil we are talking about a player who was born to play football," said Conte in January 2023.

"He understands football quickly. He’s so clever, so intelligent to understand the situation. Then you know this league is difficult, because you have to be good in quality and be fast and to have good endurance, and he has this type of quality.

“But at the same time you have to be strong physically. I think compared to last season Gil is improving a lot also under this aspect. He has to become stronger physically. I compared him to Bernardo Silva, at Manchester City, because in my opinion they are really, really similar."

Pandya brothers, Chahar star in Mumbai's emphatic win

Hardik Pandya monstered 32 off 15 balls, Krunal Pandya struck 37 not out off 27, and together the two put on a fifth-wicket partnership worth 54 off 26, which became the centrepiece of Mumbai Indians’ 40-run victory.Mumbai Indians were 104 for 4 after 15.1 overs, heading towards a par-score in the range of 150 on a slow Feroz Shah Kotla surface when the brothers united. Although they took a little time to get into the slog mode, they exploded from the end of the 17th over – Mumbai reaping 54 runs off the last 19 balls of the innings. The in-form Hardik produced the more blistering innings, walloping his eighth ball for a six way over long-off, whipping his 12th ball into the long-leg boundary, eventually finishing up with three sixes and two fours in his innings. Krunal had been slow to start, hitting only 17 off his first 18 deliveries, but he found the boundary four times off the last eight balls he faced to assist in the furious finish that Hardik spearheaded.Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan began the chase well, hitting 48 in the Powerplay, but Delhi Capitals soon lost their way. Shaw, Dhawan, Colin Munro and captain Shreyas Iyer all lost their wickets in quick succession, sliding to 63 for 4 after 10.2 overs, the required rate creeping up towards 11. None of the Capitals’ middle-order batsmen could launch a serious challenge to Mumbai’s score, and after losing regular wickets, the team eventually mustered only 128 for 9 in response to Mumbai’s 168 for 5.Rahul Chahar’s super spellHis first over – the second of the innings – went for ten runs, but Chahar came back after the Powerplay to deliver the spell that sunk Capitals’ chase. Dhawan and Shaw had laid a half-decent foundation, making 48 off the first six overs, before Chahar beat Dhawan’s reverse sweep, and ended up bowling him off his pads. That over cost only four runs, but the next Chahar over would prove to be even more fruitful. The required rate now having climbed to well over nine, Shaw came down the track to try and slam Chahah over long-on but only ended up being caught. Later – after Krunal Pandya had dismissed Colin Munro in the intervening over – Chahar bowled perhaps the delivery of the match to dismiss Shreyas Iyer, drifting his legbreak through the air, pitching it on middle and leg, then getting it to spit away sharply to beat Iyer’s push and collect his off stump. His second, three-over spell had seen him claim three wickets for nine runs.Delhi’s Kotla woes
Capitals’ coaches have already complained this season that the Kotla surface has favoured spinners more than they would like, but four games in, perhaps it is the Capitals outfit that needs to adapt. Where Mumbai’s bowlers relished taking pace off the ball, Capitals perhaps underbowled their spinners, Amit Mishra only delivering three overs, despite having bowled Rohit Sharma with a sharp legbreak early in the game.Capitals have now lost three of their four home matches this season. Their only win at the Kotla came via a Super Over.Mumbai’s supporting hands
The Pandya brothers’ final explosion was perhaps the definitive partnership of the game, but Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock also made substantial contributions to the eventual total, adding 57 off 37 balls for the first wicket. De Kock looked set for a big innings too, before he was needlessly run out by Suryakumar Yadav. And while Chahar made the best bowling contribution for Mumbai, Jasprit Bumrah also put in another outstanding performance, seaming the ball early on, and hitting his yorkers beautifully on his way to a bowling analysis of 2 for 18 from four overs. Bumrah also effected the run out of Keemo Paul, throwing down the stumps at the non-striker’s end, after collecting the ball following a delivery.

Pandya brothers knock out Knight Riders, Sunrisers qualify

Skillful bowling from them and sensible batting from Rohit took Mumbai Indians to No.1 on the points table

Vettori: KKR didn’t find the tempo after Lynn

Skillful bowling from the Pandya brothers and sensible batting from Mumbai Indians’ captain Rohit Sharma launched them to No.1 on the points table, setting up a mouth-watering clash against Chennai Super Kings in the first qualifier at Chepauk on Tuesday. The result knocked out Kolkata Knight Riders and put Sunrisers Hyderabad in the playoffs. Despite their defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Saturday, Sunrisers will now face Delhi Capitals in the Eliminator in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday.Asked to bat first on a slower-than-usual Wankhede track, Knight Riders stuttered to 133 for 7 with Robin Uthappa’s go-slow encapsulating their struggles. Hardik Pandya was Rohit’s fifth-bowling option on Sunday, but he made the biggest impact by dismissing Chris Lynn and Shubman Gill in back-to-back overs. At the other end, Krunal Pandya kept cramping batsmen for room and although he ended wicketless he was also central to Mumbai’s smothering of Knight Riders.Rohit then led the chase with a measured half-century, sounding out a warning to Super Kings, whom they have beaten five times in seven matches at Chepauk.#Lynnsanity hits Wankhede
When Sunil Narine was his opening partner, Chris Lynn often took a backseat and worked his way into the innings, which wasn’t quite his strong suit. Since Shubman Gill was bumped up to the top, Lynn has bashed his way to three successive forty-plus scores, the latest being his 41 off 29 balls on Sunday. With the ball coming onto the bat in the early exchanges, Lynn simply did his thing: he cleared his front leg and smote sixes. After rattling the seamers, he imperiously launched legspinner Rahul Chahar twice into the stands beyond long-off. Knight Riders were 49 for 0 after the end of the Powerplay – and Lynn alone had contributed 38 to that score.Make way for the Pandya brothers
Then, just like that, Hardik struck with his first ball – a slower one that trapped Gill for 9. In his next over, he hung up an offcutter wide of off and asked Lynn to manufacture the pace for himself. All he could do was to top-edge it into the hands of Quinton de Kock behind the stumps. In the four overs the Pandya brothers bowled in tandem, they conceded just 12 runs with Hardik dismissing both the in-form KKR openers. Mitchell McClenaghan, much like Hardik, took pace off the ball and bowled a maiden over to Uthappa.Uthappa kept helplessly swishing and missing outside off – and even left Krunal outside off – in a passage of play that lacked intensity according to Knight Riders’ coach Jacques Kallis. Dinesh Karthik, who had promoted himself ahead of the side’s MVP Andre Russell, was then caught at short midwicket, thanks to Krunal’s athletic intervention. In the same over, Lasith Malinga ventured around the wicket and bounced out Russell for a golden duck.In isolation Uthappa took Jasprit Bumrah for a brace of boundaries, but he could barely go at a run a ball. Nitish Raina was more fluent and moved to 26 off 13 balls before holing out in the 18th over. Bumrah was back to his usual self in the final over and he closed out the innings with the wickets of Uthappa (40 off 47 balls) and Rinku Singh (4 off 6 balls).KKR KO’d
Russell’s evening went from bad to worse when de Kock and Rohit hit 21 runs off his first over, including two fours and two sixes. Prasidh Krishna then stopped a rampaging de Kock in his tracks, when he drew a top edge that was snaffled by Karthik running back and diving across to his right.Rohit would be unstoppable, though. He didn’t take any undue risks – he didn’t need to – and just knocked the ball into the gaps. He raised his second half-century of the season off 44 balls when he punched Harry Gurney to sweeper cover in the 15th over. With the asking rate dropping to under six, Suryakumar Yadav also had the luxury of taking his own sweet time to find some form. But from 19 off 17 balls, he zoomed to 46 off 27 balls to seal Knight Riders’ fate. Mumbai wrapped up the victory with nine wickets and 23 balls to spare.

Boost for Rangers as Brighton update shared on permanent Sima transfer

Rangers manager Philippe Clement has been boosted by a key update regarding the future of an "electric" player currently at Ibrox.

Rangers transfer news

The Gers have to pick themselves up quickly, following Saturday's 2-1 defeat away to rivals Celtic, and new signings in the January transfer window could be needed. Clement's side are now eight points adrift of top spot, and while they do have two games in hand, an extra sprinkling of quality in the squad will aid their chances of going all the way in the Scottish Premiership title race.

Rangers have been linked with plenty of players of late, including Everton defensive pair Ben Godfrey and Mason Holgate, both of whom would add proven Premier League experience to the squad. Meanwhile, they have also sealed the loan signing of Fabio Silva from Wolves, which could be an exciting piece of business.

There is also one loan player currently shining at Ibrox who the Gers will be hoping to make a permanent figure at the club eventually, and a significant update has dropped regarding what could happen next for him in his career.

Rangers given Abdallah Sima boost

According to a fresh claim now made by Football Insider, Brighton are open to sanctioning a permanent move for Abdallah Sima to Rangers at the end of the season, which comes after previous reports claimed Rangers were well-placed to seal a permanent move that could cost up to £15m.

Rangers winger Abdallah Sima.

"Brighton would be open to selling forward Abdallah Sima permanently to Rangers this summer, sources have told Football Insider. It is believed that the 22-year-old does not fit into the plans of the Premier League side going forward as they have plenty of top-level attacking options at their disposal.

"The Seagulls value Sima at between £10-15million but this figure could increase if he continues his excellent form – especially in the Europa League."

This is brilliant news for Rangers, who will surely want to make Sima's loan move permanent if the chance arises, given the impact he has made since arriving from Brighton during the summer transfer window.

This season, the 22-year-old has scored nine goals in just 14 Scottish Premiership starts, as well as registering two assists, and Gers captain James Tavernier has heaped praise on him, saying:

"(Abdallah Sima) has been a real attacking threat for us this season. He’s got electric pace and can finish in difficult areas. Generally with our forwards, we have to give them better service as a team. We need to get around them and give them opportunities to get on the scoresheet the same as Abdallah."

At just 22 years of age, there could still be so much to come from Sima, and he may spearhead Rangers' attack for a number of years in the future, should he join at the end of the season. Granted, Brighton may hold out for a hefty fee for his services, but he could be worth every penny over time.

Ten Hag's second season at Old Trafford ended with the FA Cup trophy in his hands, however, after what can only be described as a poor season, the Man Utd hierarchy are still uncertain about his continuance at the club. As such, The Guardian has reported that the Red Devils' co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe admires De Zerbi's footballing principles and is a fan of his success at Brighton. He would like the club to go after the former Seagulls boss if Ten Hag is shown the door this summer.

Alastair Cook century puts Essex in strong position against Kent

Former England captain hits first competitive ton since international retirement

ECB Reporters Network27-May-2019Alastair Cook reached three figures in a competitive match for the first time since his international retirement as Essex enjoyed a positive day against Kent.Cook bowed out of Test cricket with an emotional 147 against India at The Oval last summer but had struggled somewhat for consistency having returned to the County Championship. The 34-year-old had begun the red ball season with scores of 50, 8, 11, 0 not out, 31 and 40 not out after crashing an unbeaten 150 against Cambridge MCCU. But on his 100th first-class appearance for Essex, having made his debut in September 2003, he clocked up a typically gritty century to grind Kent down. Cook ended up with 125 as Essex suffered a late collapse to reach 303 for 8 at close on the first day at Chelmsford.Kent captain Joe Denly, on his return to county cricket having been left out of England’s World Cup squad, decided to put Essex into bat without a toss. As the day wore on this proved a curious decision on a flat and well-paced wicket, albeit with the carrot on a stick for the bowlers of overcast conditions.Left-handed batsman Cook chalked up 41 with Nick Browne for the opening wicket – the latter enjoying stroking Harry Podmore for two boundaries in the first over of the match. But Browne looked uncomfortable against Darren Stevens, and duly fell victim to one that angled off his bat with wicketkeeper Ollie Robinson taking the catch diving in front of first slip.Tom Westley saw the score move on another 30 with Cook but flicked Matt Milnes to Stevens at short mid-wicket – the 43-year-old fielder stooping to grab a low catch.Meanwhile, Cook was oppressive in his diligence to keep his wicket – scoring just four boundaries in his 128-ball fifty. On the rare occasions he attacked the ball Cook oozed quality, with trademark cuts and pulls. He added 74 runs with Dan Lawrence, before Lawrence was bowled by Milnes. That started a 130-stand with Ravi Bopara.Cook moved to three figures with back-to-back boundaries off Denly – firstly cutting powerfully in front of square, before nonchalantly flicking a full ball through mid-wicket. The ton, which encompassed a mammoth 208 deliveries, was his first in the Championship since the 193 he notched against Middlesex in June 2017.The milestones continued for England’s greatest Test run scorer as he passed 23,000 runs in first-class matches when he reached 106.Cook eventually departed in clumsy style, as Sean Dickson ran around from slip to square leg to run him out while attempting to come back for a second leg bye – it was the first time he had been run out in his Essex red-ball career, having only been dismissed in that manner three times in his first-class career.Bopara and Ryan ten Doeschate were both handed lives on 35 and 1 respectively, the former put down at first slip and the latter dropped by Podmore, who attempted a caught and bowled.Bopara made hay by reaching his 54th first-class fifty, made from 97 balls, but ten Doeschate made just 12 before he steered Podmore to first slip to spark a collapse of three wickets for two runs in 17 balls.Michael Pepper was caught behind and Bopara lbw, both to Stevens, before Peter Siddle nicked behind in the penultimate over of the day.

West Ham after one of Europe’s top ten 2023 goalscorers likened to Firmino

West Ham are now targeting one of Europe's top ten goalscorers of 2023, as manager David Moyes and technical chief Tim Steidten hunt for signings.

West Ham transfer plan takes turn after injuries

As Moyes and the Hammers face a real squad shortage, it is now believed their transfer plans for January have taken a turn. Star midfielder Lucas Paqueta looks set to be out for around two months, dealing a hammer blow to West Ham, with star winger and makeshift centre-forward Jarrod Bowen also set for a spell on the sidelines.

The pair limped off during West Ham's 1-1 draw with Bristol City in the FA Cup last weekend, alongside defender Konstantinos Mavropanos. The trio join striker Michail Antonio on the sidelines, who recently suffered a setback in his recovery from a knee injury.

Coupled with Mohammed Kudus being at the Africa Cup of Nations with Ghana, the aforementioned absences have put Moyes in a desperately precarious situation.

As a result, West Ham are looking to make signings in January, and especially in the attacking areas. Led by technical director Steidten, the club have been working on a deal for Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy among others (ExWHUemployee).

West Ham also hold an interest in Sunderland winger Jack Clarke, according to Sky Sports, as both Moyes and Steidten scour the market for goalscoring wide players alongside a new number nine.

Sunderland forward Jack Clarke.

Other reports suggest Moyes has been working overtime to sign a new striker for West Ham, coming after they failed to replace Gianluca Scamacca in the summer window.

West Ham targeting Vangelis Pavlidis

As the Irons search for a proven attacking threat, a report by journalist Graeme Bailey and HITC has lifted the lid on a pretty promising new name on West Ham's radar. According to their information, West Ham are now targeting AZ Alkmaar striker Vangelis Pavlidis and a January move could be on the cards for him.

The club have sent scouts to run the rule over Pavlidis this season, alongside both Crystal Palace and Fulham, with all three sides now shortlisting the Greek as a target for the winter.

The international has been in fine form for Alkmaar this season, scoring 18 goals in 16 Eredivisie appearances, but what's more impressive is that he was one of Europe's top ten scorers in 2023.

Football Transfers also say Pavlidis is "similar" to ex-Liverpool star Roberto Firmino, but it is unclear how much he'll cost at this time.
