Everton have made four signings during the summer transfer window, and of those, it is perhaps Jack Harrison who could make the biggest impact.
The former Leeds United winger enjoyed an excellent season during 2022/23, despite suffering relegation. The 26-year-old registered 12 goal contributions – five goals and seven assists – in the Premier League.
This led him to rank second across the Leeds squad for goal contributions while also ranking first for big chances created (nine), key passes per game (1.5) and successful dribbles per game (1.3), and there is no doubt he could significantly bolster the stagnant Everton attack.
Sean Dyche may also be close to securing a move for another attacking option – and one that could see Harrison thrive on the wing for the Toffees.
Could Everton sign another player?
According to RMC Sport journalist Fabrice Hawkins, Everton are showing interest in Paris Saint-Germain striker Hugo Ekitike ahead of the final weeks of the transfer window.

This follows on from Fabrizio Romano stating that the Goodison Park side were looking to secure his services on an initial loan deal with an option to buy, although no fee was mentioned.
Despite signed attack-minded players such as Harrison and Arnaut Danjuma, Dyche has only secured one striker this summer in Youssef Chermiti – and there is no doubt there could be at least one more to arrive at the club.
How good is Hugo Ekitike?
Ekitike is undoubtedly talented, or PSG wouldn’t have signed him from Stade Reims last summer, and at just 21 years old, the future is extremely bright.
The 6 foot 2 gem netted 11 goals and grabbed four assists for Reims during the 2021/22 season, which led to the French giants moving for him, and although he scored just three goals across all competitions, playing alongside the likes of Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe will have been a crucial learning experience.
By moving to Everton, not only will he get more opportunities in the starting XI, but he could get Harrison flying on the wing – while the Frenchman could benefit enormously himself.
The PSG gem has been lauded as having “bags of talent” by journalist Lee Davey, while his former manager at Reims, Oscar Garcia, even hailed the youngster as “special”.
Judging by his meteoric rise to playing for one of the biggest teams on the continent, that praise is certainly justified.
Harrison has registered 28 assists across the previous four seasons, and given how impressive Ekitike can be in front of goal, he will be aiming to improve on his total of seven from last term.
It could be a match made in heaven, and given just how poor the club have been in terms of scoring goals during the last two campaigns – netting 34 last term and 43 the year before, it’s evident that in order to avoid yet another relegation battle, Dyche needs players who could change their fortunes in the final third.
Harrison is a solid signing by Dyche, yet by making a concrete move for Ekitike before the transfer window shuts, the former Burnley boss could secure a gamechanger for Everton as they look to enjoy a better season than they did in the previous two.

Arsenal have rejected a bid from Monaco for Folarin Balogun and are refusing to compromise on their £50m valuation of the young striker, according to Sky Sports' Dharmesh Sheth.
Is Balogun leaving Arsenal?
Having enjoyed a prolific loan spell at Ligue 1 side Stade Reims last season, Balogun is now ready to find his new permanent home.
While the 22-year-old forward would undoubtedly relish the chance to be a starting striker for Arsenal, he will have to look elsewhere for regular minutes as he sits behind Gabriel Jesus, Eddie Nketiah and new acquisition Kai Havertz in the pecking order.
His impressive campaign in France means that his value has skyrocketed from this time last season, with Arsenal having slapped an eye-watering £50m price tag on the United States international.

A number of clubs have been circling the youngster including the likes of Inter, West Ham United and Crystal Palace, but it is Monaco that have seen a bid rejected according to Sheth.
Inter are expected to come back in for Balogun following Gianluca Scamacca's decision to choose Atalanta over the Nerazzurri, but Sheth suggests Arsenal are holding firm on their valuation of their centre-forward.
Speaking on Sky Sports (via Football Daily), Sheth stated: "We're told that Monaco have bid for Folarin Balogun. It was a written offer and it has been rejected by Arsenal.
"Arsenal are not budging at the moment on their valuation of around £50m for Folarin Balogun. He's in the final two years of his contract, but he wants to make that move to get regular first-team football. What we do expect to happen now though is Inter Milan to really push to sign him.
"They were in for Lukaku but he started talking to Juventus, so they said 'thanks but no thanks'. They went in for Balogun again but couldn't agree a fee with Arsenal, so they switched their attention to Gianluca Scamacca. [They] thought they were going to get that deal done, Atalanta came in, they couldn't match the conditions that Atalanta were offering West Ham United, so as we have been mentioning Scamacca is now an Atalanta player.
"So, Inter Milan are refocusing their attention back on to Folarin Balogun. For this deal to be done though, it looks like Arsenal may just need to relax that £50m asking price."
The Gunners' steep asking price is making a deal between Arsenal and Balogun's suitors near impossible as few clubs are capable of splashing that kind of money on a fairly inexperienced young attacker.
Arsenal have reportedly told Balogun to find another club quickly, but as Sheth suggests, they may need to be willing to compromise on their large valuation before that can happen.
Has Balogun played for Arsenal?
Despite it being Balogun's first season of consistent first-team senior football, the two-cap United States forward took no time adjusting to life at the top.
Balogun managed 21 goals and three assists with Reims in Ligue 1 last season, having previously only featured in a limited capacity at Arsenal and Middlesbrough.
In fact, Balogun has only featured ten times for Arsenal's first team, only two of which came in the Premier League. The striker has scored twice for the Gunners, both goals coming in the Europa League during the 2020/21 season against Molde and Dundalk.
The fact that Balogun, who was hailed by Mikel Arteta as "special", only has one season of consistent top-flight football under his belt is perhaps one of the reasons clubs are reluctant to spend big on the forward.
An update has emerged on Celtic and their plans to add another option in the attacking department before the end of the summer transfer window.
What's the latest Celtic transfer news?
MailSport journalist Tom Collomosse has claimed that the Hoops are one of the clubs keeping tabs on Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Daniel Podence as they eye up a new forward for Brendan Rodgers.
The attacker was left out of Gary O'Neil's squad to face Manchester United on Monday night in the Premier League and his club have placed a £12m valuation on his head with a few weeks to go before the deadline.
Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph has backed up that information and added that the Hoops believe that there could be room to negotiate on that fee as the Portuguese wizard has less than 12 months left to run on his current contract.
How good is Daniel Podence?
The 5 foot 5 maestro is an exciting winger who could be a terrific partner for Liel Abada on the flanks for Rodgers, as both players could get fans off their seats with superb attacking play this season.
Podence, who scored six goals in 20 Premier League starts last term, caught the eye with his performances during the 2021/22 campaign for Wolves.
He scored two goals and created seven 'big chances' in 15 league starts, whilst the 27-year-old whiz also created 1.4 chances and completed 1.3 dribbles per game, as per Sofascore.
Meanwhile, no current Hoops player managed more than 1.3 dribbles and no current winger produced more than 1.1 key passes per match for the club, which suggests that Podence could excel at driving the team up the pitch and creating opportunities for his teammates.
Whilst his goal contributions may not stand out in comparison to Jota's 11 goals and 11 assists last term for the Bhoys, the difference in quality between the two leagues must be factored in.
Wolves winger Daniel Podence.
The Premier League is currently top of the UEFA club coefficient standings and eight places above Scotland. This essentially means that the English top-flight has the best-performing clubs in Europe as a collective, which indicates that Podence could be up against far less quality week-in-week-out at Celtic.
Therefore, the Portuguese talent's numbers at the top end of the pitch could inflate with more chances to attack, given that the Hoops scored 114 league goals in comparison to Wolves' tally of 31.
This suggests that Podence could be an exciting player for Rodgers when you consider that he could build upon his already impressive numbers at Premier League level for key passes and dribbles.
He could, therefore, be an exciting ace to play on the opposite flank to Liel Abada, who is an excellent goalscoring option out wide.
The Israel international racked up ten Premiership strikes last term, which only Jota (11) and Kyogo Furuhashi (27) outperformed.
Abada also created ten 'big chances' for his teammates and was only rewarded with five assists, which suggests that his fellow attackers let him down.
Podence could help with that as he produced six goals and only missed three 'big chances' in the Premier League last season.
Therefore, the Wolves forward, whose touches were once dubbed "delightful" by pundit Alan Smith, could be a superb signing to play with the 21-year-old sensation on the flanks as they are both players who have the potential to score and create goals.
Haryana secure first-innings lead in Lahli; Parvez Rasool sparkles with bat and ball in Jamshedpur

Priyank Panchal’s 145 – his 14th first-class hundred – helped Gujarat post a robust response to Saurashtra’s 570, as they went to stumps on 304 for 4 in Rajkot. Gujarat, however, still trail Saurashtra by 266 runs. Resuming on 45 for 0, Gujarat lost captain Parthiv Patel in the third over of the day after he was caught by wicketkeeper Snell Patel off left-arm seamer Jaydev Unadkat. Panchal then added 54 runs with Bhargav Merai before the latter was dismissed by left-arm spinner Dharmendrasinh Jadeja. Three balls later, Dharmendrasinh struck again to remove Manprit Juneja as Gujarat slipped to 109 for 3.Panchal, however, took charge and put on a 179-run stand with Rujul Bhatt (75*). During the course of their partnership, Panchal, who had made half-centuries in his last two games, brought up his hundred before tea. He struck 20 fours before he was cleaned up by Unadkat. Dharmendrasinh and Unadkat finished with two wickets each.Haryana secured the first-innings lead against Rajasthan after bowling out the visitors for 150 in Lahli. Haryana then finished the day on 179 for 5 in their second innings and stretched their lead to 252.In the morning, Rajasthan had done well to eat into the deficit after resuming on 74 for 7. Rajasthan’s recovery was thanks to a 61-run alliance between Tajinder Singh (38) and Deepak Chahar (27). However, after Chahar was removed by Ajit Chahal the innings unravelled quickly. While Chahal finished with three wickets, captain Amit Mishra and seamer Ashish Hooda picked up two apiece.Haryana started shakily in their second innings, losing their first three wickets for 62, with seamer Aniket Choudhary accounting for the openers Guntashveer Singh and Shubham Rohilla. The recovery was helmed by Shivam Chauhan (65) and Rajat Paliwal (35). But, their dismissals left Rohit Sharma and Mishra needing to steer the team towards stumps with no further damage.Jammu & Kashmir secured the first-innings lead against Jharkhand after the latter declared their first innings on 292 for 9 at the Keenan Stadium in Jamshedpur. J&K then extended their lead to 330 runs after they went to stumps on 246 for 7 in their second innings.Resuming on 220 for 5, Jharkhand’s push to secure the first-innings lead suffered an early setback after overnight batsman Ishan Kishan was caught behind by Punit Bisht off Mohammed Mudhasir. Kumar Deobrat (34) and Sunny Gupta (31*) played useful hands, but Jharkhand fell behind. Left-arm spinner Aamir Aziz claimed four wickets while Mudhasir and captain Parvez Rasool picked up two and three wickets respectively. Rasool had a pivotal role to play with the bat in J&K’s second dig, as his 74-ball 70 rescued his team from 110 for 5. Along with Owais Shah (50), whose innings comprised three fours and three sixes, he raised a stand of 119 runs. J&K, however, suffered a late jolt when both Rasool and Shah fell just before stumps.
Manchester United have started their 2023/24 Premier League campaign off rather meekly. They were lucky to escape with all three points against Wolverhampton Wanderers last week before going down 2-0 to Tottenham Hotspur on the weekend.
Three points from six and just one goal scored wasn’t the start Erik ten Hag was anticipating, and he will be even more concerned by some of the performances, particularly from new signing Mason Mount.
The £60m summer arrival from Chelsea was expected to improve the United midfield.
Against Spurs, however, he was almost non-existent, having completed only 15 accurate passes and taken as few as 27 touches – even Andre Onana recorded more passes and touches, signifying how poorly he played as a creative-minded midfielder that makes things happen in the engine room.
Could this perhaps give the Dutchman a licence to dive back into the transfer market and lure another midfielder to Old Trafford?
The club have recently been on a scouting mission to France…
Will Manchester United make more signings?
United have shown interest in a few players during the final weeks of the transfer window, most notably defenders.
Frenchman Jean Clair-Todibo has been linked with a move and the Red Devils even sent scouts to monitor his performance for OGC Nice a couple of weeks ago.
Read the latest Man United transfer news HERE…
This wasn’t the only player that United were keeping tabs on, however.
According to Get French Football News, OGC Nice midfielder Khephren Thuram was also being closely monitored in light of a potential move to England.
He wouldn’t break the bank either, with the Ligue 1 outfit valuing one of their prized assets at around €40m (£34m) and could Ten Hag act swiftly and bring him to Manchester in the coming days?
What could Khephren Thuram offer Manchester United?
With Rasmus Hojlund injured and Mount failing to showcase his true abilities so far, Ten Hag’s summer recruitment may soon come under criticism, with just Onana enjoying a solid start.
Thuram has enjoyed an impressive spell with Nice since joining in 2019, making 140 appearances and last season was his most productive yet, registering ten goal contributions – two goals and eight assists – across 50 appearances. This is made even better by the fact he typically operated as a defensive midfielder.
Khephren Thuram
Mount was deployed in a deeper role against Spurs alongside Casemiro, yet it clearly didn’t work out and Thuram could certainly be an instant upgrade on the former Chelsea gem in this position.
Indeed, last season, the Frenchman registered more league goal contributions (six v five), a higher pass success rate (85.1% v 75.2%), tackles won (25 v 19) and interceptions (38 v eight), suggesting that he offers more across both attacking and defensive metrics.
Thuram even ranked in the top 4% when compared to positional peers for progressive carries per 90 (3.4) and the top 8% for successful take-ons per 90 (1.65).
Mount on the other hand failed to rank in the top 40% for successful take-ons per 90 (0.78) while ranking in the top 17% for progressive carries per 90 (2.24), indicating the difference between the two players.
Journalist Zach Lowy even dubbed him as an “elite ball carrier” amid Liverpool’s interest in the youngster earlier in the summer transfer window.
For a fee of just £34m, Ten Hag could sign a player who won't just be part of his future plans, but a talent that could force his way into the starting XI straight away and be an instant Mount upgrade in the process.
Manchester City are preparing to table an opening offer to sign Rennes forward Jeremy Doku, but a new report has revealed that it's not enough to bring him to the Premier League.
Who is Jeremy Doku?
Doku is naturally a right-sided winger who has played his football at the Roazhon Park since 2020 having moved there from Anderlecht where he’s since gone on to make a total of 91 appearances to date, but there’s a strong possibility that he will be moving onto new pastures before the end of the current window.
Despite his contract not expiring for another two years, the 21-year-old firmly established himself as Bruno Genesio’s best-performing offensive player last season, and this consistent high standard of performance has caught the eye of Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium.
As well as Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise, Fabrizio Romano previously revealed that the Sky Blues had added the Belgium international to their wishlist to succeed Riyad Mahrez who completed his £30m move to Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Ahli in July. He said:
“EXCLUSIVE: Manchester City now add Jeremy Doku to the list to replace Riyad Mahrez as new winger. Alongside Michael Olise (who’s in both City and Chelsea lists), Doku is one of the priority names being considered by Man City.”
Are Man City signing Jeremy Doku?
According to ESPN, Man City are in talks with Rennes and are "working on a deal" for Doku. They are "ready to bid" for the player, but it's stated that Rennes are demanding a fee of £45m to sanction his sale, a price that chiefs currently aren't willing to cash out, therefore leaving a "gap in valuation".
Lyon's Bradley Barcola is another player to have been identified as a potential replacement for Mahrez, whilst the club remain keen on West Ham United's Lucas Paqueta and are expected to return to the negotiating table with an improved offer having seen their opening £70m proposal rejected at the London Stadium.
Rennes forward Jeremy Doku.
How many goals has Jeremy Doku scored?
In Ligue 1 last season, Doku racked up eight goal contributions (six goals and two assists) in 29 appearances with this form having seen him receive four man-of-the-match awards from WhoScored, highlighting what a standout performer he is, and there’s no doubt that the winger would only excel further under the guidance of Guardiola.
The Antwerp native also poses a constant threat even when he doesn’t hit the back of the net, ranking in the 99th percentile for successful take-ons, number of touches in the opposition’s penalty area and shot-creating actions, so he’s always looking to dribble past his marker and produce moments of quality for his teammates in the final third.
Doku, dubbed “The Belgian Flash” by football talent scout Jacek Kulig, who also lauded him as "simply amazing", also has the versatility to operate everywhere across the frontline and even as an attacking midfielder, as per Transfermarkt, so his ability to adapt would make him a great option for the boss to have in the building, therefore making this a no-brainer of a deal to complete.
Superb footage has emerged of Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk celebrating his team's win despite his red card, although he could be in line for further punishment from the Football Association.
What's the latest on Liverpool and Virgil van Dijk?
It was a hectic game at St James' Park on Sunday afternoon as the Red made the trip up to face Newcastle United in their most recent Premier League fixture.
After all, it looked as though disappointment was in store for Jurgen Klopp and co when Trent Alexander-Arnold made a big mistake, affording Anthony Gordon the opportunity to make it 1-0 to the Magpies.
After the English winger put the home team ahead, Liverpool's woes got even worse when their captain Van Dijk was handed a straight red card just three minutes later for a last-man foul on Alexander Isak.
Even so, the Reds battled valiantly throughout and with NUFC unable to make their extra-man advantage count, they were punished by substitute Darwin Nunez who levelled the game in the 81st minute.
Adding to the drama, the very same man then stunned the home team, leaving the St James' Park faithful in silence as he bagged his second in the 93rd minute, helping Liverpool pick up a shock 2-1 win.
Having seen his team complete an incredible and unlikely comeback – albeit from his banished position in the away team's dressing room – Van Dijk was understandably elated when the full-time whistle blew.
As you can see in this footage shared by the official Liverpool social media account, the laughing club captain delightedly hugs Nunez, shouting: "Let's go!" He also saves a big hug for a very happy Jurgen Klopp.
How many games will Van Dijk miss?
While the defender is clearly pleased that his side picked up the win despite his mistake, Van Dijk will still have to face further consequences of his actions.
After all, because it was a red card, he will be suspended for the club's home clash against Aston Villa next week. Though as it wasn't a dismissal for violent conduct, but rather for a professional foul, he should only miss this one outing.
However, due to his behaviour when leaving the pitch, he may have landed himself in more hot water. Indeed, as per the Daily Mail, Van Dijk appeared to swear and berate referee John Brooks’ decision to send him off, reportedly calling it a “f***ing joke”. While he also had strong words with fourth official Craig Pawson before finally leaving the pitch.
The report notes that these comments potentially fall into the category of improper conduct towards match officials, which could result in further punishment from the FA.
What's more, former referee Keith Hackett called for "further sanctions" on Van Dijk in his column for the Independent, claiming that the officials were "spot on" with that decision and so the player had no reason to behave as he did.
He explained: "VAR officials checked and confirmed that Brooks made the right decision, but Van Dijk continued to debate with the referee and showed a reluctance to leave the field of play. TV cameras picked him up shouting at Brooks that he thought the decision was a “f*****g joke” as he left the pitch.
"Depending on Brooks’s report after the match, Van Dijk should be in line to receive further sanctions."
It'll be interesting to see if anything more comes of this.
