Pakistan are planning to slash the prices of tickets for next month’s Champions Trophy after experiencing near empty stands for the Asia Cup games earlier this summer when the ticket rates were very high.A seat for the Pakistan-India match in a decent enclosure in Karachi’s National Stadium was reportedly priced around Rs 3000. Shafqat Naghmi, Pakistan Cricket Board’s chief operating officer, said on Wednesday that the tickets would cost almost 30-40 % less than those in the Asia Cup.”We want to ensure that all Champions Trophy matches attract sizeable crowds and will take all possible measures for it,” Naghmi told the . “We will consult the ICC and try lowering the ticket prices.”However, the PCB and the ICC now face a big challenge because the eight-nation tournament will be played during the fasting month of Ramadan. Normally, Pakistan doesn’t host international series during this period and it remains to be seen whether spectators will fill up the stadiums during the tournament. To facilitate the spectators, it has been decided to time the matches in such a way that the innings break comes at time when one breaks his fast (at dusk). Efforts are also being made to provide for free meals for spectators but implementing such an idea would cost the PCB around Rs 15 million.

Taseer resigns from Appellate Tribunal

Salman Taseer has resigned from the three-man Appellate Tribunal, which is hearing Shoaib Akhtar’s appeal against a five-year ban imposed on him by the Pakistan board, citing his commitments as the Governor of Punjab, a post to which he was appointed on May 15.”The chairman of the board [Nasim Ashraf] will now appoint someone to replace Taseer after consulting the head of the tribunal, Justice (retd) Aftab Farrukh,” a PCB official told the .Taseer’s resignation comes days before the tribunal was set to reconvene on June 4 to resume their hearing into Shoaib’s appeal. The tribunal had, last month, suspended Shoaib’s five-year ban to allow him to take part in the inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League. The tribunal was constituted by the Pakistan board in April, and is headed by a retired justice, Farrukh, who was the former Judge of the Lahore High Court, and also includes former Test cricketer Haseeb Ahsan.

Wolves confirm Rayan Ait-Nouri signing

Many Wolves fans have been left buzzing as the Midlands club confirmed the signing of Rayan Ait-Nouri in an announcement on their official Twitter page.

As per the club’s official website, the left-back has signed on a five-year deal with an option of a further year after impressing while on loan from Angers in the 2020/21 season.

Technical director Scott Sellars was full of praise for the youngster, claiming that he is a ‘very talented’ player with ‘lots of potential’.

Ait-Nouri clearly made a great impression for Wolves to make his move a permanent one, ranking highly among his teammates in terms of average tackles (1.4), key passes (0.7), dribbles (1.2), pass success (86.1%) and crosses (0.6) per match in the Premier League last term (WhoScored).

The 20-year-old will hope to hit the ground running once more in his second season at Molineux, this time under new manager Bruno Lage.

West Brom keen on Emiliano Marcondes move

West Brom are reportedly in the race to sign former Brentford midfielder Emiliano Marcondes, as Valerien Ismael eyes up new additions.

The Lowdown: Ismael looks to make his mark

The Baggies are about to embark on an exciting next chapter in their history, following the appointment of Ismael from Barnsley.

He will surely be on the lookout for new signings during the summer transfer window, in order to aid West Brom’s promotion push in the Championship next season with players who fit his system and profile.

The Latest: Marcondes emerges as target

One player who has been linked with a move to the Hawthorns is Marcondes, with The Express claiming that the Ismael’s side have ‘entered the race’ to sign the 26-year-old.

The midfielder made 34 Championship appearances for Brentford last season, helping them reach the Premier League, but his contract is about to expire and he will be a free agent.

Nottingham Forest and Barnsley are both believed to be interested in signing Marcondes, too.

The Verdict: Ideal summer addition

Marcondes could be a shrewd addition by West Brom this summer, especially given his experience of helping a team reach the Premier League.

The Dane scored two goals and registered three assists in the league last season despite making most of his appearances as a late substitute, highlighting his ability to chip in as an impact player off the bench.

Only 14 of his 34 league appearances in 2020/21 were starts – but strong squad depth will only make the Baggies more formidable under Ismael.

James Pearce makes key Liverpool claim

Liverpool have not completed the signing of Ghanaian youngster Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, according to The Athletic‘s James Pearce.

The Lowdown: Reds claimed to have signed youngster

It was claimed earlier in the week that the Reds had agreed to sign Issahaku, immediately loaning him out to Sporting Lisbon in the process, in order to continue maturing as a player.

The 17-year-old attacking midfielder had caught the eye playing for Steadfast FC in his homeland, also scoring two goals in six appearances for Ghana’s Under-20 side.

The Latest: Pearce laughs off rumour

Despite Liverpool seemingly completing a move for Issahaku, Pearce has been quick to deny the rumour, taking to Twitter on Wednesday to say he has joined Sporting permanently.

After being quizzed on the matter by a fan, Pearce confirmed ‘I checked with contacts’ and the Reds ‘haven’t signed him’.

The Verdict: Pearce should be trusted

When it comes to the most reliable Liverpool journalists around, Pearce is near the top of the pile, so he should be trusted over the original source, which has seen been shared around in various outlets like The Mirror.

It would be a big surprise now if it transpired that the Reds actually had acquired Issahaku’s signature and sent him out on loan to Sporting.

Perhaps they could make a move for the youngster in the future though, with a fan-made compilation on Twitter recently showing he clearly has talent and penchant for scoring wondergoals.

Pundit backs Chris Wood to thrive at Aston Villa - Exclusive

Dean Smith appears to have somewhat of a transfer war chest this summer at Villa Park but a shrewd and under the radar piece of business could be Chris Wood ,who has been backed to impress for the Villans by former Newcastle United defender Steve Howey.

Wood is part of an illustrious club that may surprise a few people, especially Villa fans who may not be impressed with links suggesting Smith could move for the striker, as he is one of only eight players to have hit double figures in the last four Premier League seasons.

The New Zealand international has a contract that runs until 2023 but that has not stopped Villa from being linked with the striker, and it would appear no price tag would put them off if they accept Manchester City’s £100 million offer for Jack Grealish.

It would certainly be a different type of signing to Ollie Watkins but with Smith unable to rely on his main striker to be firing every single game, a proven Premier League player like Wood who would offer them a different style of attacking could be a smart signing, according to Howey, who spoke exclusively to Football FanCast:

“He’s certainly a very good outlet, you can just clip a ball into him if you’re under pressure and he can win you a foul further up the pitch.

“If he can improve his hold-up play then I certainly think you’ve got a striker there with his goals that could be quite good for Villa.”

Wood was signed from Leeds when they were in the Championship and despite being part of a Burnley side who are more often than not in a relegation battle, he’s thrived off great service and Sean Dyche’s side playing to his strengths.

Despite his frame and being six foot three, his touch and finishing with his feet is very underrated. You just have to look at his goal away to Fulham last season which left Alphonse Areola with no chance, and Alan Shearer praising him last year for being very good at occupying two centre backs at once, saying he’s “horrible to play against”.

Entire Wellington team face Code of Conduct charge

Wellington’s entire State Championship cricket team has been cited for unacceptable behaviour under cricket’s Code of Conduct and will face a mass disciplinary hearing at the end of their match against Otago at the Basin Reserve tomorrow

Steve McMorran19-Feb-2002Wellington’s entire State Championship cricket team has been cited for unacceptable behaviour under cricket’s Code of Conduct and will face a mass disciplinary hearing at the end of their match against Otago at the Basin Reserve tomorrow. The blanket citing, thought to be a first in first-class cricket, was made by Otago coach Glenn Turner after an incident, provoked by an umpire’s decision, on the second day of the match in Wellington today.Turner lodged his complaint against all 11 Wellington players at the close of play, citing appendix 2A of the code which refers to unacceptable behaviour.Turner’s complaint concerned Wellington’s communal behaviour when an appeal for a catch against Otago batsman Chris Gaffaney was initially turned down by umpire Mike George.Gaffaney was five in the sixth over of Otago’s second innings when he appeared to edge a ball from James Franklin to Wellington captain Richard Jones at third slip.Wellington appealed unanimously for Gaffaney’s dismissal and George rejected the appeal under the apparent impression the ball had not carried cleanly to the fieldsmen. The Wellington players, clustered around Gaffaney at the striker’s end, stood for some time in mute disbelief then turned to square leg umpire Evan Watkin for intervention.Watkin eventually consulted with George and at the end of their discussion, George reversed his decision and Gaffaney was dismissed. Otago was then seven for three.Turner complained that Wellington’s behaviour, which was concerted, their refusal to accept George’s ruling and their appeal to Watkin amounted to unacceptable behavour under appendix 2A.The matter will go to a full hearing when play concludes tomorrow. At the close of play tonight Wellington was 92/3 in its second innings, still needing 79 runs for outright victory with seven second innings wickets in hand.Jones, at the epicentre of the controversy, was 49 not out.Jones had taken the captaincy of the Wellington team in this match in the absence of Matthew Bell who is serving a one-match suspension after being cited by umpire George over an incident in Wellington’s previous match against Northern Districts last week.Turner was unable to comment on the citing today, saying team and match officials were constrained from comment till a hearing had been held. The blanket nature of the citing raises the almost surreal possibility that Wellington entire first XI could be stood down for one or more forthcoming matches.

O time é bom. Estão um pouco mais improvisados do que no ano passado, mas Gabriel, Everton, Adryan e os meninos que vieram da base e estão na seleção foram bem.
A torcida critica demais!

Wolves should unleash Marques on Sunday

When Wolves announced on Friday that Nuno Santo would be resigning from his role at the end of the season, it was a sad day for the club.

It marked the end of a happy and rosy four years at Molineux, a stint in which he took Wolves from a middle of the road Championship team to one able to compete for European football.

A bottom-half finish may be a poor way to go out but, in the words of Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers, he leaves as a “legend”.

On the chalkboard

Nuno’s final game in charge of the Old Gold will be against Manchester United at Molineux on Sunday afternoon. Wolves have typically done rather well against the Premier League’s big six since being promoted, and a victory against one the league’s title contenders this term would be a great way for the 47-year-old to bow out.

The manager has experimented in recent weeks with a view to next term and, despite the fact that he’ll be leaving, he should do so again this weekend.

We’ve seen Morgan Gibbs-White and Vitinha earn more minutes in recent weeks but one player we’re yet to see at senior level is Christian Marques.

The Swiss centre-back is the most expensive signing in the history of Wolves’ academy after the Midlands side beat Bayern Munich to his signature a few years ago.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-wolves-transfer-rumours-and-news-soumare-dias-dembele-marques-nuno-santo” title=”Read the latest Wolves transfer rumours and news!”]

Thought to be in the mould of Conor Coady, Marques has already captained his country at youth level and skippered the Old Gold’s under-18 and under-23 sides.

The defender is a natural-born leader and Darren Ryan, Wolves’ elite player development coach, thinks he has something in him not often seen. “It’s rare for a youngster coming from another country to show such leadership,” he told The Athletic.

Aged just 18, the central defender is a wonderful talent, someone who Harry Hooman – now Wolves’ head of UK academy recruitment – described as “outstanding” during initial scouting.

It would be a considerable baptism of fire to hand him his first team debut against the might of Manchester United but Wolves should certainly consider it. After all, they have nothing but pride to play for during Nuno’s final game in charge of the club.

The Wolves manager has already handed a debut to Theo Corbeanu in recent weeks, so this time it should be the turn of Marques.

He has appeared on the bench in the Premier League in four games so is clearly on their radar for a senior berth. That needs to happen this weekend; there is no better time with nothing riding on the game.
