Tottenham: Report shares major Bastoni transfer twist

A report out of Italy has now shared a major Tottenham Hotspur transfer twist involving Inter Milan star and target Alessandro Bastoni.

The Lowdown: Agent make Bastoni statement…

On Wednesday afternoon, Bastoni’s representative Tullio Tinti met at the Nerazzurri headquarters to discuss the future of his client, soon after making a statement that seemed to dash Spurs’ hopes of signing the 23-year-old.

He claimed that Bastoni ‘certainly’ would be remaining at the San Siro for 2022/2023, dealing an almighty blow to Lilywhites manager Antonio Conte who has the Inter gem on a list of top defensive targets.

Tinti’s message to the press hampered sporting director Fabio Paratici’s hopes of backing Conte with the centre-half’s arrival in north London.

The Latest: Calciomercatoweb share twist…

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-latest-developments-2/” title=”Tottenham latest developments!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

According to Calciomercatoweb, even after Bastoni’s agent reiterated his desire to stay at Inter, it is believed that the Italy international is still the ‘number one goal’ of Conte as Tottenham’s manager is ‘willing to go crazy’ to sign him.

As such, the Premier League giants and Conte have a ‘new proposal in mind’ – to offer €30 million (£26m) plus Davinson Sanchez to acquire Bastoni.

The Verdict: Surprise news…

The comments of Tinti seemingly ruled out any move for Bastoni, so this update comes as a surprise to say the least.

It is a long transfer window which has only just opened for business today so shocks surely can’t be ruled out, and if Spurs do the very unlikely in moving for the Serie A star, it could be a brilliant purchase.

The £122,000-per-week ace, called a ‘defensive genius’ by Italian football expert Conor Clancy, comes with a glowing reputation and it will be interesting to see how Spurs could attempt to finalise a transfer over the next months.

Tottenham: Alasdair Gold shares Paulo Dybala update

Reliable Tottenham Hotspur journalist Alasdair Gold has shared the latest news involving soon-to-be free agent Paulo Dybala.

The Lowdown: Dybala’s contract

As reported by Fabrizio Romano in March, the Argentina international will leave Juventus upon the expiry of his contract with the Turin club.

This news came after the Serie A giants had originally reached a verbal agreement with the 28-year-old back in October.

After consideration, Juve decided to change their proposal, much to the disgust of Dybala, who proceeded to open talks with other clubs, having made the decision to leave after seven years with the Bianconeri.

The Latest: Gold’s claim on Dybala

With Dybala set to become a free agent in July, Tottenham have frequently been linked with a move for the attacker.

When questioned about the validity of the Dybala rumours in football.london’s latest Q&A, Gold claimed that it is unlikely that the Argentine will be playing in a Lilywhites shirt next season.

The journalist proclaimed: “I don’t believe so when it comes to Dybala. I understand Paratici does not believe he’s the best fit for a Conte Tottenham and Spurs’ managing director of football was one of those keen on moving Dybala out of Juventus back in the summer of 2019.”

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-latest-developments-2/” title=”Tottenham latest developments!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Verdict: Good player but not the right move

Whilst Dybala has been hailed as a ‘special’ player for his time with a dominant Juventus outfit, the Argentina international may just not be the right signing for Antonio Conte’s side.

With Harry Kane being a guaranteed starter up front for Tottenham, the 28-year-old could end up playing second fiddle if he were to arrive at Hotspur Way.

For example, when compared with positional peers across Europe over the past year, Kane ranks in the 93rd percentile for non-penalty expected goals plus expected assists, whereas Dybala comes in at the 56th percentile for the same statistic (via FBRef).

Furthermore, with Heung-min Son and Dejan Kulusevski also having enjoyed fantastic seasons playing in Spurs’ attack, there doesn’t appear to be room in Conte’s side for Dybala.

Everton interested in Oleksandr Zinchenko

Everton are said to be looking at signing Manchester City man Oleksandr Zinchenko in the summer transfer window, and the Ukraine captain could be a superb addition to Frank Lampard’s side.

What’s the word?

According to journalist James Benge, a number of Premier League sides including Arsenal and Everton have the 25-year-old on their radar ahead of next season.

Since joining City from Ufa in 2016, the versatile midfielder has gone on to make 128 appearances for the Citizens, contributing two goals and 12 assists, predominantly from left-back.

However, Zinchenko is equally adept in midfield and showed his quality with a superb performance in Ukraine’s 3-1 win over Scotland on Wednesday night.

As per SofaScore, he earned an 8/10 rating for his display, which ranked him as the best player on the pitch from both sides.

The City star registered an 87% pass accuracy and played three key passes, one of which found Artem Dovbyk who scored Ukraine’s third goal with the last kick of the game to seal a World-Cup qualifying showdown with Wales on Sunday.

Lampard would love him

According to WhoScored, last season saw Zinchenko register an impressive 7.05/10 rating for his performances in the Premier League, as he helped Pep Guardiola’s side to the Premier League title.

As regular captain of Ukraine, the £22.5m-rated man would offer Lampard some vital leadership, while his versatility could also be significant for the Toffees next season as they look to improve on what was so nearly a catastrophic 2021/22 campaign.

Although he has often been a bit-part player for the Citizens in his time at the club, his influence cannot be underestimated, and he played a key part in City’s final day turnaround against Aston Villa.

The Athletic’s Villa correspondent Gregg Evans was full of praise for his performance on Twitter, writing:

“Zinchenko has been so good for MCFC since coming on. The composure he shows in the final third is frightening.”

Not only would the 25-year-old offer Everton plenty on the pitch, but he could also be a great mentor for fellow Ukrainian Vitaliy Mykolenko, who was a regular starter for the Toffees at left-back towards the end of last season.

Therefore, this is a signing that would make a lot of sense for Lampard, and if Everton can prise him away from Manchester City, then he could be a superb addition at Goodison Park.

Rangers: Aaron Ramsey claim emerges

A big Rangers claim has emerged on Ibrox loanee Aaron Ramsey and his future under Giovanni van Bronckhorst heading into the summer transfer window…

What’s the talk?

Transfer insider Pete O’Rourke has hinted that the midfielder will not be returning to Rangers for the 2022/23 campaign.

Speaking about the Ibrox loanee, he told GIVEMESPORT: “I’m sure Aaron Ramsey looked like he enjoyed his time at Rangers.

“But a deal would have to be subsidised because of his wages at Juventus if Rangers were to bring him back. As it stands right now, it looks like he might have played his last game for the club.”

Gio van Bronckhorst will be gutted

The Ibrox boss will be gutted by this claim as it suggests that Ramsey will not be in his squad next season due to financial constraints.

Whilst the midfielder’s time at the club will be marred by his penalty miss in the Europa League final, he showed glimpses of quality throughout the second half of the campaign.

In the Premiership, he averaged a SofaScore rating of 6.93 in seven appearances. He found the back of the net twice, including one against Celtic, and set up another as he created seven chances for his teammates.

The gem also registered one assist in three games in the SFA Cup as he helped the club to win the competition. His statistics, albeit limited, show that he has the quality to pop up with goal contributions from midfield, which is in line with what he has done throughout his career.

He produced 130 goals and assists combined during his time with Arsenal – playing 371 matches – and 12 in 70 games for Juventus. The 31-year-old has enjoyed a fantastic career and has proven that he can make a big impact in the final third.

Therefore, with a full pre-season under his belt and more time to adjust to playing with his teammates, Ramsey could have been a huge player for the Gers. The quality – as shown by his statistics – is there and that is why van Bronckhorst will be gutted that he will be unable to work with him again next season.

O’Rourke has not completely ruled out a deal, as the situation may change, but it appears unlikely at this moment in time that he will be pulling on a light blue shirt again.

Hopefully, he can get his career back on track elsewhere if he does not return to Rangers.

Everton ‘waiting’ to sign Carter-Vickers

Journalist Larry Henry Jr has revealed that Everton are among a number of clubs who are now ‘waiting’ to sign Cameron Carter-Vickers this summer.

The Lowdown: Great season

The 24-year-old has had a great season on loan at Celtic from Tottenham Hotspur, with Hoops legend John Hartson even going as far as to claim that he has been “outstanding” for the Glasgow giants.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/everton-news-5/” title=”Everton news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The United States international was a mainstay in the side which reclaimed the Scottish Premiership title from their fierce rivals Rangers, and he has earned himself a lucrative move once the transfer window opens.

The Latest: Everton ‘waiting’ to sign Carter-Vickers

As per Henry Jr on Twitter, Everton are now ‘waiting’ to sign Carter-Vickers, in case a permanent move to Parkhead from Spurs falls through.

He outlined: “Cameron Carter-Vickers has indeed agreed personal teams with Celtic, but no official agreement yet between #SPFL winners and Tottenham, a source close to the player confirmed. Bournemouth, Newcastle, Everton, Fulham waiting in the wings.”

The Verdict: Sign him

Valued at £2.7m by Transfermarkt, Carter-Vickers could be a bargain signing for the Merseyside club, especially given question marks over Financial Fair Play (FFP) which may see them have a restricted budget once more this summer.

The 6 foot 1 colossus is still only 24 years of age, so he has plenty of room to develop into an even better centre-back over time, which should ensure that the Toffees get their money’s worth from signing him.

Nonetheless, there appears to be a lot of competition for his signature, so this is a deal that Frank Lampard and co will probably need to get done quickly.

Man United eye move for Milinkovic-Savic

Manchester United are eyeing up a move for Lazio’s Serbian midfielder, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, if their proposed deal for Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong falls through.

What’s the word?

That is according to a report via FootballTransfers.com, who claim that United will turn their attention to the 27-year-old who has been a target for the Old Trafford outfit for “many years”.

With Matic and Pogba set to leave at the end of the season, United will most certainly be in the market for at least one replacement midfielder.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-man-united-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-and-more-nunez-ten-hag-nkunku-richarlison” title=”Read the latest Man United news!”]

As per the report, Lazio president Claudio Lotito claimed that he had turned down a €140 million for the Serbian star, though it is said that this was a guise in a bid to raise his value for his almost inevitable departure this summer.

As such, a fee of around €70m (£59.2m) should be enough to seal the deal, with the report stating that it could even be less than that mark.

A McTominay upgrade

With Pogba and Matic set to depart, United’s midfield quality will decrease even further, which is why it is imperative that quality replacements are signed this summer, with United’s lack of defensive stability a direct issue caused by a poor midfield.

The fact that United have averaged 4.4 possession turnovers in the final third serves as evidence for what has been an extremely passive side under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick this season.

Milinkovic-Savic, known as “il Sergente” (Sergeant), can single-handedly bolster United’s midfield with his average of 4.07 pressures in the attacking third per 90 an already dramatic improvement on a lethargic midfield. For comparison, McTominay, who is one of the most hardworking players in a United shirt, averages around 2.07 pressures in the attacking third per game and does not offer much going forward in comparison to Milinkovic-Savic (apart from the odd screamer).

The Serbian’s average of 3.08 shot-creating actions per game explain his emphatic return of 22 goal contributions in 36 Serie A games, which are exactly halved at 11 goals and 11 assists.

McTominay of course falters in comparison, with just one goal and one assist from 29 games – which is to be expected, due to his more defensive position on the pitch.

Though, McTominay does not have the same impact in possession either, with the Serb’s average of 81.89 touches and 56.25 carries enough to elaborate on why he is known as “Il Sergente.”

Man City set to say goodbye to Gundogan

Manchester City have numerous players in their current squad who have made more than 200 appearances for the club under Pep Guardiola.

Now that the summer transfer window is on the horizon, it seems as though a behind-the-scenes development has emerged which could lead to one of those players seeing their time at the club come to an end.

What’s the news?

According to a recent tweet from journalist Mike Keegan, City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan is set to leave the club this summer.

The Daily Mail reporter also added that talks between the club and the midfielder will take place at the end of the season, but the Citizens have reportedly made their stance clear on the matter.

The Germany international joined City from Borussia Dortmund in 2016 as the first signing that Guardiola made for the club in a deal worth £20m.

Since then, the 31-year-old has gone on to make 252 appearances for the Manchester club across all competitions. In that time, the former Dortmund star has scored 47 goals, supplied 33 assists and won numerous trophies along the way.

The German was a crucial figure for his club last season, as his 13 top-flight goals helped City to secure the Premier League title, ending the campaign as their top scorer.

Bad news for Guardiola

With 26 league appearances under his belt this season, the midfielder has found the net six times, delivered four assists and earned himself an overall WhoScored performance rating of 7.21/10. This makes him the seventh-highest rated player in Guardiola’s current squad according to the site, further highlighting his importance to the team.

Taking all this into account, it’ll surely be a blow for the City manager to not have Gundogan in his squad for next season given everything he’s done for the team and everything that he can offer.

In terms of what the German’s next step could be should he find himself leaving the Etihad Stadium this summer, he has mentioned in the past that he could see himself playing in USA or Turkey.

With fellow City midfielder Fernandinho set to say goodbye to Manchester this summer, having him and Gundogan potentially leaving at the same time will surely fforce the club into signing some replacements.

Robinson urges Spurs to keep Antonio Conte

Sky Sports pundit Paul Robinson has urged Tottenham Hotspur to do everything within their power to keep Antonio Conte at the club, amid reports of Brighton manager Graham Potter being lined up as a possible replacement.

The Lowdown: Potter identified by Spurs

The 52-year-old still has one year remaining on his current contract with the north London giants, but his future has been the subject of much speculation in recent weeks after the Italian reportedly offered himself to Paris Saint-Germain, following the news that former Lilywhites boss Mauricio Pochettino looks set to leave the French capital.

According to The Telegraph, it is claimed that the Seagulls coach has been identified as Spurs’ number one target if Conte decides to leave N17 at the end of the season, although they would have to cough up a hefty £10m in compensation should they want to lure Potter away from the south coast.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-newest-updates/” title=”Tottenham newest updates…” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Latest: Keep Conte at the helm, says Robinson

When asked for his thoughts on the Brighton manager potentially making the switch to north London, former Spurs goalkeeper Robinson told Football Insider:

“They have got to keep hold of Conte. I wouldn’t like to see Graham Potter come in.

“Conte is going to get linked with every top job in the world and unless Spurs are in the Champions League it is not going to go away. Spurs need to be competing regularly. They have to fight off the interest in Conte and give him the money.

“I don’t want to think about who the next manager could be because I don’t want Conte to leave. Spurs have one of the best managers in the world right now. Anything from Conte would be a downgrade.

“Potter is a manager who is doing a great job but he is not Antonio Conte. The club can’t go down the route of looking for a lesser manager than what they have got.”

The Verdict: Not enough experience

Potter, who was once hailed an “unbelievable” manager by ex-Brighton player Will Buckley, first made the move to the Amex Stadium from Swansea ahead of the 2019/20 campaign, guiding the Seagulls to their then-highest Premier League points tally (41) during his first season in charge.

Most recently, he led his team to a staggering 4-0 victory over Manchester United at the weekend, and he has done a great job in steering them away from the relegation zone and transforming them into a team pushing for a top-half finish in England’s highest division.

However, if Spurs are looking to appoint someone who could take them to the highest level on the international stage, the 46-year-old hasn’t quite got this kind of experience at the top of the European game yet. Therefore, as Robinson has advocated, it could prove wise to stick with Conte and see what he can achieve with a potentially new squad next term.

Celtic linked with move for SPL goalkeeper

Celtic could potentially now sign Livingston goalkeeper Max Stryjek in the summer transfer window, according to manager David Martindale.

The Lowdown: Stryjek impresses for Livingston

The 25-year-old has become an influential figure for Livi in the Scottish Premiership this season, helping them to seventh place in the table and being hailed as ‘superb’ by his boss earlier in the campaign.

Stryjek has made 33 league starts in total in 2021/22, winning two Man of the Match awards from WhoScored, outlining his importance to the cause.

It looks likely that the Pole could move on to pastures new this summer and Celtic could be a contender to sign him.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/key-latest-celtic-updates-6/” title=”Key latest Celtic updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=“none”]

The Latest: Celtic mentioned as suitor

Speaking to The Daily Record, Martindale admitted that Stryjek’s time at Alderstone Road may have come to an end, mentioning the Old Firm clubs as a possible destination for him:

“The unique selling point for anyone who comes into our club is to try and get themselves a move to England or to the Old Firm, or failing that, to the Edinburgh two or Aberdeen, where the wages are substantially more than you’re going to get at Livingston.

“Everybody who comes here uses us as a stepping stone.

“I do believe Max is probably not going to be here, because there is a good bit of interest, so I’ve got to do what’s right for the squad and I think, from what I’ve seen of Ivan, he’s more than capable of being the number one next season.”

The Verdict: Good competition for Hart

Celtic could do with having stronger competition for Joe Hart moving forward, especially with the Hoops’ first-choice ‘keeper now 35 years of age.

Stryjek could be exactly that, pushing the Englishman for a starting berth and hopefully getting the very best out of him, in order to keep his place in the team.

At 25, the Livingston man would also come in as a long-term investment, with goalkeepers more than capable of playing all the way through their 30s.

Whether or not Celtic get him remains to be seen, but he ticks all the boxes, in terms of his age, experience and even the fact that he knows the Scottish Premiership inside out.

In other news, one Celtic player has been tipped to leave the club this summer. Find out who it is here.

Everton given an early fitness boost

Everton will return to action on Sunday as they travel to the King Power Stadium to play Leicester City for their second meeting in less than a month, and Frank Lampard has given an early injury update ahead of the game.

What’s the latest?

The Toffees boss took to Everton TV to talk about the plans for the last five games, and revealed a promising update on Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s injury progress:

“We have a week now [before the Leicester game] to get Dom more fit because he can be a big player for us – we know that – and to keep the levels in the squad high and positive.”

Supporters will be excited

Everton are in an extremely vulnerable position with their Premier League status hanging in the balance.

The side are currently 18th in the league table, two points deep into the relegation zone currently so the return of Calvert-Lewin will surely be welcomed and leave supporters excited ahead of the final hurdle in their battle for safety.

The star striker has had a horrendous season in terms of dealing with constant injuries that has seen him miss large chunks of the campaign, which has notably had an effect on the attacking output of the team and as a result, has led Everton into the desperate situation they have found themselves in.

Calvert-Lewin was out from August 2021 to January 2022 with a quad injury and broken toe, despite making ten appearances since his return the centre-forward has struggled to get back into form with just one assist and no goals since he scored against Brighton in August last year, just before he sustained his long-term injury.

With that being said, the fact that there is a chance he can return against Leicester will be a huge relief to Lampard and the team, giving them a huge boost to their forward line that could ultimately be the difference in Premier League or Championship football next season, as they approach the finale of their season over the next few weeks.

Lampard must find a way to keep the confidence and the momentum going in his team following a fantastic victory over Chelsea last weekend whilst they still have the opportunity to save themselves.

AND in other news: Forget Holgate: Everton must unleash “composed” 18y/o tank with “plenty of potential”
